Message from Conference Chair
Dear Delegate,
The tremendous growth witnessed by the IT industry in India in recent years, has brought with it a huge number of challenges as well. Most companies are using the Global Delivery Model to meet the demanding and diverse range of customer needs cost effectively. With the globally distributed nature of IT projects there are multiple dimensions that need to be balanced. Different geographies that the customers are based in with different cultures that go with it that need to be managed, different technologies that need to be brought together to provide solutions to customers, and different industry domains that need to be understood and addressed from a customer business perspective, have all contributed to hitherto unforeseen challenges for both the budding and experienced project managers alike. To address these challenges, managers need to hone their skills in several dimensions of project management, such as managing stakeholders effectively, managing risks and dependencies, and getting the best out of their teams, and also be equipped with innovative practices relating to different areas of Project Management, Program Management and People Management. Practitioners consistently look for learning best practices from other practitioners in the industry as well as by turning to the academia for new theory that could be applied to real life situations.
The theme for this year's SPM-ICON conference “Managing Globally Distributed IT Projects – the balancing act” has been chosen keeping the above challenges and requirements of practitioners in mind. The advisory board and technical committee have contributed by sharing their thoughts, experience and knowledge to put together a distinguished set of key note and plenary session speakers and ensure a balance between well tested and successfully working practices as well as new and innovative approaches that are emerging. The practitioner's community has also responded in a big way with several papers describing practices and techniques that have worked well for them in countering the dynamic challenges in Project Management in a Global context.
SPM-ICON 2008 presents Pre-Conference tutorials, Keynotes, Plenary Sessions, Best Practices and Panel discussions that are Unique and Packed to Perfection.
On behalf of the Conference Hosts, Advisory Board, Technical Committee, Speakers and Sponsors, we present this mega event that we know for sure you will benefit significantly from.
We are sure that SPM-ICON 2008 will address the dynamic changing needs of the Project Manager in managing in a Global Context.
Welcome to SPM-ICON 2008!
